My name is Luís Carvalhal and in 2020 I created Parallel Symbols inheriting 15 years of work as a freelancer in the fields of Photography and Graphics Design, and more recently Video filming and editing.
Born and living in Lisbon, Portugal, I studied academically electronics and architecture, but at the age of 21, none of those areas fulfilled me. I then studied 3D modelling and animation and worked in the field in the mid 90s,
I moved on to multimedia and interactive application design and soon after I entered the world of the internet when it "exploded" in Portugal right before the XXI century.
In 2000, I discovered photography and enrolled in the Professional Course at the Portuguese Institute of Photography from 2002 to 2004, and in 2005 started, at the institute, teaching Photoshop / Lightroom and from then till now also teaching other related photography subjects.
Between 2004 and 2008, I enter the world of music and worked at Jornal Blitz as a concert and portrait photographer shooting many world renowned artists, and temporarily become convinced that I was also a DJ by playing music at Bar Incógnito. I kept my day job and kept DJing as a hobby.
I started as a freelancer in graphic design after some technical training and quickly became one of my main areas of work.
In 2007 I started as a regular contributor to the Museu do Fado in graphic design and video editing, in a partnership that continues to this day, that also includes photographing events and products as well as exhibit and catalogs graphics designer.
Between 2010 and 2015 my work was mainly teaching photography and working for Fado Museum with the odd photography challenges from other clients.
In 2015, photography takes on a bigger dimension in my life when I start working in portraiture (particularly of musicians and chefs) and in Food and Product photography.
In 2017, and adding to the already video editing skills, started filming videoclips and YouTube videos.
Continuing to build relationships with current and new clients and expanding the scope of the company is the objective for this new decade.
Thank You.
